Southern Tier Architectural Resource Center
Architecture Club and Interior Design Club
The Southern Tier Architectural Resource Center’s mission is to enhance the quality of the built environment in Allegany County through the promotion of sound design and planning principles.
Our vision is an Allegany County where the application and implementation of sound design and planning principles assist in creating vibrant, economically healthy and sustainable communities.
The Southern Tier Architectural Resource Center (STAR) is a collaboration of two organizations in the Department of Architecture and Design that wish to work together to improve the quality of the built environment in Allegany County and the surrounding region.
For the past 10 years, students in the architectural technology and interior design programs have participated in a number of community-based, service-learning projects throughout Western New York as part of their studio course work. The establishment of the Southern Tier Architectural Resource (STAR) Center is an initiative to consolidate and formalize the efforts of the individual architecture and interior design studios at Alfred State for the benefit of Allegany County and the surrounding region. Through the work of the club members and faculty advisers, we will continue to educate individuals, civic and community groups, and municipalities about the quality of our built environment.
The establishment of the STAR Center at Alfred State will benefit both students and the individuals and communities in and around Allegany County. By offering a combination of applied research, education, advocacy and technical expertise, the Architecture and Interior Design Club members, other interested students on campus, and faculty advisers will be a valuable resource for those in need of design assistance.
