Zero Waste Action Team
Our mission is to minimize waste generation at Alfred State and in the surrounding community through outreach, education, and advocacy.
Alfred State will be a model of zero waste principles and practices that catalyzes deep reductions in community waste generation.
The Zero Waste Action Team is an initiative to increase recycling and decrease waste production on campus. The leadership suite will be a base camp and hub for information about recycling and waste minimization including locations for appropriately disposing of various types of waste and statistics about campus recycling and waste generation. The suite will also provide flyers, posters, and other promotional material that supports and encourages recycling and decreases the campus’ overall waste production.
The club engages students in recycling and waste reduction through campus-wide educational programs led by informed club members or outside speakers. In addition to having information available, they also have people to coordinate and help with projects such as move-in day recycling and increasing the availability of recycling around campus.
The club partners in activities with related organizations such as New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse, and Recycle, and the Allegany County Department of Public Works, which administers the recycling program in Allegany County.
