At a glance
ASC has launched its new website. Both the design & navigation have been completely redone in order to make the website much easier to use. A number of new features have also been added. Read the whole story to find out more.
Alfred
State College has launched the latest incarnation of its Web site at www.alfredstate.edu. The new site features an updated design and
reorganized navigation, making information about ASC much easier to find. Emphasis
has been placed on making the navigation as easy to use as possible, meaning
users will always be just a click or two away from key information and
practical applications such as academics, admissions, athletics, alumni, events, news, and student life.
The new site's navigation
operates through "role" pages, which allow browsers to access the pages which
most closely relate to their needs (or "roles") such as prospective students,
parents of current students, international students, or school counselors. In addition, there is a site index at the
bottom of every page which makes it very easy to jump between sections.
The site search
feature has also been greatly improved.
It is more accurate and provides additional information such as a
preview of the content for each search result.
Additionally, ASC
has added new content areas to the site, including our "Success Stories"
section which will be updated with articles about our outstanding students,
faculty, and alumni. The Web site also
contains a section on news and information that houses an archive of news
releases as well as a section on sports news releases and a weekly statistical
roundup of all Pioneer athletic teams.
The new site now
offers RSS feeds to allow users to subscribe to constantly updated feeds of
news and Web content, so that the user can easily keep up to date on the latest
headline news articles and college developments. A number of other pages also
offer RSS feeds, indicated by an orange icon.
There is, of
course, a new look to the site. The design is cleaner and simpler. The colors
and the fonts have been changed to reduce user eye-strain while browsing the
site. A sprinkling of visual features has been added (such as our tool tips)
which will make the ASC Web site experience more interesting and informative.
The College Web
programmer utilized Drupal, an open source content management system, to
develop the new site. The team will continue
to develop the site and will assist faculty and staff in developing and
maintaining departmental Web sites.
The Alfred State College Web development team sees
this new Web site as a foundation on which we can continue to build new
features to help visitors to the site "hit the ground running!"
