As the new semester officially opens, Alfred State proudly welcomes 15 new employees.
On Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, Alfred State and Alfred University will be working together to host a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.
Alfred State has made quite a few lists and earned some prestigious awards this year—from Cosmopolitan’s best colleges for meeting men to being named a best lifetime return on investment in the state. Here are just a few to ring in the New Year.
From now through the end of January, visitors to Hinkle Memorial Library can escape the winter doldrums and spend time appreciating the natural world through a blend of photography and the Giclee printing process.
“The whole idea was to make it as energy efficient as possible,” Brubaker said. As per the Governor of New York’s Executive Order 88, all state facilities have been directed to reduce energy consumption by 2020. Brubaker is confident that this renovation will not only be part of fulfilling that directive but also provide an example for other institutions and campuses to follow.
“Our students made an impressive showing,” says Tim Piotrowski, of Jamestown, an assistant professor of Civil Engineering Technology at Alfred State who accompanied them on their trip. “These were real-world simulations with real-world deadlines and all the associated stress. But our students excel at those types of challenges.”
The groups will be sponsoring ‘Operation Shoebox/Christmas Child’ and will have collection boxes available at the concert. Donated item suggestions are small toys, facecloths, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pencils, tablets, crayons, etc. The shoeboxes will be filled and sent to children all over the world.

Dr. Lisa McCool met with Honors Program members and guests on Nov. 6, 2013, to discuss the Peruvian economy and climate. Dr. McCool also described the trip she will take to that country with 12 students next May.
The college community is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Eric Michael Green. Eric, previously reported missing, was located in Almond, NY. At this time, the evidence shows no foul play.
