New Student Checklist

Congratulations on your acceptance to Alfred State, home of the Pioneers!

To complete the enrollment process, you will first need access to the student portal, My.AlfredState.edu. Your username and initial password can be found on the enclosed Deposit Instructions/Refund Policy/Email Instructions sheet.

Once you've accessed the student portal, refer to the buttons below to guide you through the enrollment process.

  •  
    • Pay Acceptance Deposit  
      Choose $150 on-campus if you will be a residential student or $100 off-campus if you will be commuting. Be sure to pay your deposit by the due date listed on the Deposit Instructions/Refund Policy/Email Instructions sheet to secure your place in your major.
  •  
    • Finances  
      Begin the financial aid process and apply for financial aid. Be sure to take advantage of all our resources on the Finances tab.
  •  
    • Email  
      Access your Alfred State email account and check it on a regular basis.
  •  
    • Sign Up for Housing  
      Room selection begins in April for fall accepts and December for spring accepts. Any student who qualifies to live off campus must complete a housing waiver application. Go to AlfredState.edu/student-life/housing/forms.
  •  
    • Health Portal  
      Please visit the Health Portal and submit your health forms and immunization records beginning early May for fall accepts and early December for spring accepts.
  •  
    • Orientation Sign Up  
      Register for orientation.

Miscellaneous Items

  • Fall accepts will receive their course schedule at orientation and spring accepts will receive their course schedule via their Alfred State email account. For questions, please contact Academic Advising.
  • If you have taken college-level coursework, be sure to have an official college transcript sent from the college that is granting the credit to Alfred State before attending orientation.
  • Prior to arrival on campus, please have your official final high school transcript sent from your high school.
  • Review other important information such as housing and meal plan options, laptop requirements, required tools, etc.

Miscellaneous Items

  • If you are beginning your studies in the fall semester, you can register for courses mid-April once your enrollment deposit has been paid. Check your Alfred State email in April for course registration directions. If you’re beginning in the spring semester, registration information is contained in this acceptance folder. NOTE: if you are entering a School of Applied Technology (AOS degree) program, course registration will be completed for you.
  • Review other important information such as housing and meal plan options, laptop requirements, required tools, etc.

    • Email  
      Access your Alfred State email account and check it on a regular basis. For students who have attended college previously, your transfer credit summary will be sent to your Alfred State email account.

    • Register for Courses  
      If you’re beginning your studies in the fall semester, course registration can be done mid-April once your enrollment deposit has been paid. If you’re beginning in the spring semester, registration information is contained in this acceptance folder. Contact the appropriate department to begin the process and request a registration PIN. See below for contact information.

Miscellaneous Items

  • Watch your Alfred State email account for information on registering for orientation.
  • Please note that most students will be required to complete an online student readiness course prior to beginning classes. There is no cost and information on this course will be sent to you if you are required to complete it. Questions regarding the online readiness course can be directed to the Center for Online Learning, onlinelearning@alfredstate.edu, 607-587-3458.
  • Review other important information such as laptop requirements, etc.

  • If you are studying completely online, it is not necessary for you to complete these items. Most students will be required, however, to take an online readiness course prior to beginning classes if not previously completed.

      Your acceptance deposit has been paid as a part of your P-Tech Grant.

    • Email  
      Access your Alfred State email account and check it on a regular basis.
  •  
    • Sign Up for Housing  
      Room selection begins in April for fall accepts and December for spring accepts. P-Tech covers a double occupancy room.
  •  
    • Health Portal  
      Please visit the Health Portal and submit your health forms and immunization records beginning early May for fall accepts and early December for spring accepts.
  •  
    • Orientation Sign Up  
      Register for orientation.

Miscellaneous Items

  • Course registration will be completed for you by the academic department.
  • Textbooks, laptops, and required tools will be ordered for you by the Campus Store. Visit the Campus Store during Week of Welcome to pick up your textbooks and laptop. Your tools will be delivered to the Wellsville campus.
  • Review other important information such as housing and meal plan options.
