In its inaugural year, the Archers of Alfred earned a grant from USA Archery to assist with long-term program development. Alfred State is one of only 26 clubs in the country to receive a collegiate archery program grant.
“The skills of Alfred State’s archers are growing at an incredible pace and the greatest challenge is to provide the tools needed in what is an equipment-dependent sport,” stated Greg Sammons, vice president for Student Affairs and club coach. “The Easton Foundations and USA Archery are to be commended for helping to develop young archers. The generosity of the grant immediately increased our access to Olympic recurve and outdoor target equipment.”
In the award announcement to Alfred State, USA Archery stated: “The collegiate archery program continues to grow, and we were thrilled to see hundreds of archers from over 50 colleges and universities across the nation compete at our National Outdoor Collegiate Championships last month.”
Collegiate archery programs in good standing can request grant funds for items such as athlete and coach travel, target butts, stands, archery equipment, general supplies, and coaching certifications to support club, athlete and coach development. Generous contributions from the Easton Foundations fund the USA Archery grants.
USA Archery is the national governing body for the Olympic sport of archery in the United States. USA Archery selects and trains Olympic, Paralympic, World Championship, and World Cup teams, as well as developing archery at the grassroots level across the United States.
