Health & Wellness Services, Center for Civic Engagement and the Office of Student Engagement have a history of collaborative efforts with Foodlink of Rochester, NY.
Foodlink is a regional food hub and the Feeding America food bank serving Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties. Their operations target the root causes of hunger. Foodlink distributes food to a network of human service agencies, serving meals through our commercial kitchen, and offering more than 30 food-related programs. In 2015, Foodlink distributed nearly 19 million pounds of food — including 4.6 million pounds of produce, offered more than 200 nutrition education courses, and created new access points for healthy foods in underserved communities. Their innovative approach directly addresses health disparities related to food insecurity.
Alfred State has hosted four pantries over the past three semesters. The first pantry had a total of 191 students and community members served with the latest pantry in November on the Wellsville campus serving 392. Upcoming mobile food pantry visits either near the Alfred campus or at the Pioneer Student Union on the Wellsville campus will be posted throughout the campus, community, and on student announce.
